the sofitel venezia is a modern five floor hotel sited in western venice, 400 metres from santa lucia station and one kilometre from the rialto bridge. the hotel features 97 air conditioned guestrooms decorated and furnished in a traditional 18th century venetian style. all guestrooms include satellite television with pay movies and internet connections, clock radios, direct dial telephones, and blackout drapes. bathrooms include combination showers and tubs, bathrobes, radios, and hair dryers.
the hotel's papadopoli restaurant is housed in an unusual winter garden dining area featuring 36 species of tropical plants. open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant offers fish, pasta, traditional venetian specialities, and an extensive selection of italian wines; wine tasting evenings can be organised on request. guests can relax with a drink or aperitif in the salotto veneziano cafe bar, which is host to exhibitions and live music sessions. books and daily newspapers are available to browse in the café library, and room service is available round the clock. currency exchange and babysitting services are on offer and business clients will find fully equipped conference facilities for up to 48 people. the hotel has a private boat, which is available for transfers to tourist sites in venice or excursions further afield. the attractions of the city are all in easy reach with the rialto bridge and st. mark's square both within three kilometres. venice marco polo airport is 15 kilometres away and can be reached by car in approximately 20 minutes.

Superb place to stay. We had a gorgeous front room with a balcony overlooking the canal which was lovely (but you have to ask!) We were provided with bathrobes, slippers and toiletries, which made us feel at home! Breakfast was a nice selection of meats, omelettes, cheeses, cereal etc. We drank wine in the hotel bar and visited the hotel restaraunt where the food was delicious. The hotel is in a quiet area, but only a 20 minute water taxi ride to the main square.
